concurrency limit action IGNORE builds up backlog

Article Original Creation Date: 2014-10-21

Problem

SG 4.4.1 with 10 hot fixes, production

scenario:
- our "retry configuration" policy in the periodic hook has concurrency limit action IGNORE

observed:
- today we observe (for the first time), that the number of records in device policy hold increases

expected:
- when IGNORE, there is never backlog

impact:
- what are these records?
- when will they be treated, if ever?
- how can we get rid of them?
- should we worry

Environment

Service Gateway 4.4.1 (+Hotfixes EE25466 101043 104367 10123847 115279 E001 E002 E003 E004 E005 10168465)

Cause

After reviewing the application code Engineering has identified a scenario whereby Service Gateway will orphan device entries in the SPRT_SG_POLICY_DEVICE_HOLD table.

Solution

Engineering has released hotfix ServiceGateway_HotFix_Pivotal10168465 to address this issue.
