Article Original Creation Date: 2014-03-19

Overview

In the ServiceGateway database, column created by of the table sprt_ec_device contains two common values WebServiceuser or System.

The article details the difference between the two users/values.

Information

The column created by in the table sprt_ec_device contains the account name which is used to add the device record. WebServiceuser and System are used by ServiceGateway to access the database from the application.

Third Party application uses web service to add a device record to ServiceGateway. In this case, web service uses the WebServiceuser user name to add the device. These are generally used to create a Pre-provision record(s).

When ServiceGateway adds the device, It uses the System user name. ServiceGateway adds the device usually when it registers for the first time.
When a device connects to ACS (Auto Configure Server) for the first time, it sends an Inform, and the ServiceGateway application creates a record in the sprt_ec_device for the CPE (Customer Premise Equipment), and this uses the System account.

If a user account is used to add a CPE record manually from Inventory - Devices in the ServiceGateway (SG) GUI, then the corresponding User ID could be found in created by, e.g., Admin.
